Piedmont Regional Medical Assistance Team

In 2006 Spartanburg EMS was selected to host the South Carolina Piedmont Regional Medical Assistance Team.  We are one of four teams throughtout the state tasked with providing emergency medical care to sick and injured during all types of disaster situations when local resources are overwhelmed.  The other three teams are hosted by Lexington County EMS, Beaufort County EMS, and Horry County Fire and Rescue.  Each team is assigned a specific region throughout the state but are designed to be able to operate in conjunction with each other to create larger teams.

Response Goal: Be able to be on site and setup to receive patients within 6 hours of initial activation.

Response Capability: Two teams combined together have a response capability of receiving and treating 250 patients per day for 72 hours without outside assistance.

RMAT Team Members train and plan continuously throughout the year to ensure that all aspects and capabilities of the team remain operationally ready for deployment.

In addition to planning and training to respond to disaster situations, RMAT also deploys to preplanned large scale events such as the Spring Fling which attracts thousands of people to Downtown Spartanburg SC every spring.
